Kenya Floods: Relief Efforts Continue as Flood Toll Rises

While relief efforts bring essential supplies to displaced families, the devastating impact of Kenya's floods continues to unfold.

Over 3,000 displaced people received food aid,Mattresses,Blankets  yesterday in Githurai 45,Kiu-Ward, at Lily Academy.

The handover was presided by the Government of Kenya in partnership with Child Welfare Society of Kenya (CWS).

Beacco, CBS (State Dept for Correctional Services), Labour & Social Protection Parliamentary Commitee lead as well Thika MP, Hon. Alice Ng'ang'a ,Ruru Constituency MP,Hon.Simon N.Kinga'ra,Githurai Kiu-Ward MCA, Hon Zack ,Githurai Mwiki-Ward MCA, Madam aamong other Representatives 

 

Key statistics from The Government's Spokesperson on the Flooding Situation in Kenya

Here's a critical update based on the latest information from the Kenyan government spokesperson's office:

  • Accommodation: The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) has set up 187 camps across 25 counties, housing over 3,000 people. Additionally, 65,493 evacuees from Nairobi River flooding have been integrated back into communities.
  • Infrastructure Damage: Unfortunately, 64 health facilities have been damaged across 12 counties, and an estimated 168,092 acres of land have been destroyed.
  • Health Concerns: 54 dysentery cases have been reported at Nyeri GK Prisons, highlighting the importance of sanitation and clean water in flood-affected areas.
  • Kiambu County: The Kimende area has been declared a danger zone due to a landslide. A multi-agency team is conducting risk assessments and search and rescue operations in surrounding areas.
  • Nairobi Update: Search and rescue continues in Mathare North after a building collapse, with disaster management teams ensuring everyone's safety.
