 Former Homa Bay County Chief of Staff Dismissed for Preying on Junior Staff  & Interns

Mr. Charles Odhiambo, the former Chief of Staff of Homa Bay County, has been dismissed by Governor Gladys Wanga following multiple allegations of sexual harassment.  

Odhiambo, who previously served as the head of station at Ramogi FM, has faced numerous accusations of inappropriate behavior. During his tenure at the radio station, he was reportedly involved in multiple affairs with junior staff and interns , allegedly leveraging his position to solicit sexual favors from female colleagues . Former colleagues describe his behavior as excessive, with claims that he frequently used inappropriate language, including suggestive remarks.  

In his dismissal letter, signed by Governor Wanga, Odhiambo is accused of bringing disrepute to the county government, the governor, and the office he served. Insider sources indicate that at least 17 complaints of sexual harassment have been filed against him, involving interns and junior staff across the County Executive, the County Assembly, and even Governor Wanga’s private office in Nairobi.

Additionally, reports suggest that a confrontation arose after the husband of a junior employee discovered explicit messages allegedly sent by Odhiambo to his wife. Following this incident, he has been absent from work since March 4, 2025. His prolonged absence ultimately led Governor Wanga to terminate his services, deeming his continued employment untenable.  

Governor Gladys Wanga officially terminated Odhiambo’s contract through a letter dated March 28, 2025. The letter states that his conduct amounted to gross misconduct, unethical behavior, and insubordination, which brought disrepute to the office he served and the County Government of Homa Bay. It further reminds him of his obligation to uphold the Constitution, the Leadership and Integrity Act, and the Public Service Code of Conduct.  

Odhiambo will receive his salary up to the date of termination, one month’s salary in lieu of notice, and accrued gratuity. He has also been instructed to return any county government property in his possession.
