As of *Sunday,February 8, 2026*, Sudan has returned to the *Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)* after a *two-year Self suspension,* following a diplomatic push by the bloc, which included condemning the *Rapid Support Forces (RSF)*.
Sudan had previously suspended its membership in January 2024 to *protest the invitation of the RSF commander to an IGAD summit.*

*Key details regarding Sudan's relationship with IGAD:*
1. Rejoining (2026): Djibouti, as the current chair of IGAD, announced that Sudan confirmed its return via an official letter from the Sudanese foreign minister to the executive secretary, following diplomatic consultations.
2. Previous Suspension (2024): Sudan's de facto government, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, suspended its membership in January 2024, accusing IGAD of *"violating sovereignty"* by engaging with the paramilitary RSF, with whom the army has been fighting since April 2023.
3. Context: Before the 2024 suspension, Sudan was a founding member of the regional bloc, which has been attempting to mediate the ongoing conflict.
4. Outcome: Following the announcement of its return, IGAD reaffirmed its support for Sudan's national institutions and condemned RSF actions.
Sudan's return signifies a re-engagement with regional efforts to address the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis.
