A Historic Media Paradigm: Transforming Conflict into Global Peace & Truth

1. About the Forum: Background & Historical Context

Having liberated its internationally recognized territories following the 2020 44-Day Second Karabakh War and the decisive September 2023 1-day military operation—which fully dissolved the self-proclaimed separatist administration—Azerbaijan restored full control over its lands under the historic declaration "Karabakh is Azerbaijan!" This ended nearly 30 years of occupation across Nagorno-Karabakh and the 7 surrounding districts (Lachin, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan).

The agreement established the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" transit corridor and opened formal diplomatic and economic relations.

Building on the historic momentum of the Washington DC Peace Process—where U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Azerbaijan’s President H.E. Ilham Aliyev and Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to establish the

"Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" transit corridor—Azerbaijan continues to lead the regional peace transition.

 

To anchor this transformation, Azerbaijan hosts the annual Shusha Global Media Forum in Shusha, Karabakh. Convened from July 11–14, 2026, the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum brought together over 100 international journalists and high-ranking officials from around 54 countries.

Under the overarching theme, "The Mission of Media in Promoting Peace: Restoring Truth and Rebuilding Trust,"

key discussions—opened by Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President and Head of Foreign Policy Affairs—focused on counteracting disinformation, cross-border solidarity, and ethical news coverage. Notably, 2 media delegates from Kenya (Muhoro Pius W-K254 Media Africa & Elizabeth Mutuku-TV47) represented the East African region at this landmark event.

• Direct Access to Leadership: A core highlight of the forum was an unscripted, 2-hour interactive Q&A session with President Ilham Aliyev. President Aliyev addressed global media delegates directly, fielding questions on regional stability, international connectivity, global media ethics, and post-conflict rehabilitation.

Governments should actively invite foreign press to witness internal developments, historical resolutions, and economic expansion transparently, establishing national narrative sovereignty on the global stage.
