Did You know that #Azerbaijan:
1. Industrial oil drilling in Azerbaijan began in the 1840s (1843)⁉️
The first oil well drilled near Baku (in the Bibi-Heybat area) was completed around 1846 and is widely recognized as one of the first industrially drilled oil wells in the world.
Commercial oil production with mechanically drilled wells began shortly after, around 1847–1848, especially in the Bibiheybat and Balakhani fields.
1.1. Azerbaijan was also one of the earliest countries to develop #offshore oil production. The “Oil Rocks” (Neft Daşları) field began producing oil in 1949–1950 in the Caspian Sea, establishing a foundation for offshore energy development.
2. Has Great linkage to the #Nobel_Prize ⁉️
Robert and Ludvig Nobel (Alfred’s Nobel's older brothers) were oil entrepreneurs who saw the commercial potential of oil in #Baku, Azerbaijan in the 1870s.
They founded "Nobel Brothers Petroleum Production Company" (eventually known as #Branobel) in the late 1870s, which became one of the world’s #largest oil companies at the time.
3. A Leader in Mining Education (Oil & Gas) where it has advanced mining Education and Research. ⁉️
4. Showcases rich Museums & Cultural heritage ⁉️
5. Has a developed ICT governance frameworks & digital transformation programs⁉️
6. Is a functioning #Democratic Republic with Multi-Party Elections.⁉️
7. A former host of Climate Change's #Cop29 (the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties) in 2024 by #UNFCC-United Nations Framework Convention on #Climate_Change⁉️
8. Hosting this Year's 13th World Urban Forum (#WUF)-#WUF13 2026 in #BAKU by UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) ⁉️
