NAIROBI, April 2, 2026 — The Board of Bamburi Cement Plc, a leading local cement and concrete solutions provider, has officially announced the appointment of Mr. Geoffrey Ndugwa as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2026.

Mr. Ndugwa succeeds Mr. Mohit Kapoor, who has concluded his tenure after successfully stabilizing the business during a critical transition phase.

A Seasoned Visionary for a New Era

Mr. Ndugwa returns to the helm of East African operations as a veteran of the Holcim Group, bringing over two decades of executive expertise gained across sub-Saharan Africa. His most recent role was as the Mergers and Acquisitions Projects Director for the Holcim Group MEA Region, following a successful stint as the CEO of Lafarge South Africa.

Confirming the appointment, Bamburi Cement Board Chairman Dr. John Simba lauded Mr. Ndugwa as a transformative leader recognized for driving sustainable profitability and implementing rigorous governance frameworks.

Distinguished Professional Background

Mr. Ndugwa’s academic and professional credentials reflect a deep commitment to excellence in both engineering and commerce:

• Education: MBA from Edinburgh Business School (Heriot-Watt University, UK) and a B.Eng. (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of East London.

• Certifications: PGD in Marketing from the UK Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM); Chartered Marketer; graduate of the Lafarge University/INSEAD Executive Development programme.

• Memberships: Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers and the UK Chartered Institute of Marketing.

His career trajectory began as a Structural Engineer before joining Lafarge in Uganda in 2001. Over the years, he has held pivotal roles, including leading Bamburi Special Products Ltd, serving as Commercial Director for Bamburi Cement Ltd, and holding Country CEO positions in Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Strategic Growth and Infrastructure Commitment

The appointment comes at a high-stakes moment for Bamburi Cement. Now a member of the Amsons Group, the company is aggressively pursuing long-term clinker self-sufficiency and increased production capacity to meet Kenya’s growing infrastructure demands.

Key milestones in this strategy include:

• The Matuga Plant: Late last year, Bamburi signed a US$250 million (Kshs 32 billion) EPC contract with Sinoma CBMI Construction Co., Ltd for a turnkey clinkerisation factory in Kwale County.

• Production Leap: The new state-of-the-art plant will produce 1.6 million tonnes of clinker annually using carbon-neutral technologies.

• Capacity Doubling: This project aims to boost clinker production from 1 million to 2.6 million tons, and total cement capacity from 1.8 million to 4 million tons.
