KRA Pledges to Facilitate Informal Sector Tax Compliance!


The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has pledged to address challenges faced by the informal sector in a bid to incentivize and onboard the sector players into the tax net.

The informal sector is estimated to employ about 15 million people, accounting for 83 percent of the country's total labor force. It has a great tax potential, but is not currently contributing its fair share to the tax base.

KRA has pledged to:

  • Work with the National Treasury to establish policies that will simplify, harmonise and reduce the multiplicity of taxes obligated to the informal sector.
  • Educate traders to appreciate the need for paying taxes.
